About the Corporate Health Care Coalition

The Corporate Health Care Coalition (CHCC) was formed in 1993 by 25 Fortune 100 companies to work with Congress and the Administration in their efforts to enact health care reform. CHCC was designed to be a small group of 'like-minded' companies who could advocate the views of large multi-state corporate sponsors of benefit plans. The primary mission of the Coalition was to ensure that federal health care reform legislation would protect and promote employer-sponsored benefits, and provide strong federal preemption of state insurance laws.

CHCC is a member-driven organization that operates on the basis of consensus. Each company designates two company representatives -- a benefits expert and a government relations professional -- as its active participants. Member companies develop and communicate all CHCC positions. CHCC staff provide technical and organizational support -- monitoring federal health care legislation, analyzing legislative proposals, developing legislative strategy, and consulting with other organizations.

CHCC has played a role in the consideration of all major health care proposals since the 1993. The Coalition has worked closely with Congress to develop constructive solutions to health benefit issues. At critical junctures, the Coalition has been active with key Members and their staff in drafting and lobbying for alternative legislative packages, often seeking bipartisan sponsorship. Our positions have consistently supported the preservation of employer-provided health care benefits and a strong ERISA preemption structure. Specifically, CHCC has communicated to Congress about health care reform, patients' rights legislation, mental health parity, retiree health and Medicare reform, and a variety of other health benefits issues.
